Last week turned out to be quite busy and lots of fun!

My mom came up on Monday to babysit for us (date night included!) so that I could chaperone Miles' zoo field trip on Tuesday. What fun! It was so cute to watch Miles with his little friends. I hear a lot about these kiddos but there isn't much parent-in-the-classroom time, so I don't know these children. He was so excited to ride the big bus (me too. I never rode a school bus growing up) and had so much fun. My favorite part was watching him skip along holding hands with this little girl he talks so much about. And being able to share this special day with my little M.

The afternoon class had the same field trip on Wednesday so no school for Miles. I walked into the living room to see this. Melts my heart.

Then we got dressed and headed over to Luke & Bridget's for some backyard fun and a picnic.

Thursday was the last day of school. My little M is not so little anymore!

I've been feeling crafty and made some fun goodies for the teachers. Some teacher thank you cards and a treat. The little cupcake things are supposed to be like apples.

A picnic lunch, special dinner, and a visit from Grandma and Grandpa! Perfect!

Josh took Miles to the track on Friday. He thought it was so cool. Of course he loved the cars. The noise, not so much.

I had to fit baby Lauren in here somewhere.

In preparation for the hot weekend ahead, Josh headed out Friday afternoon to pick up a little kiddie pool. In typical Josh fashion, he came home with something really big and way more fun than what I would have gotten. The kids had a blast in the pool all weekend. And the water lasted because it had a cover and filtration system. Really?! Dad is way cooler than mom. John lost his footing right away and went under. He didn't want anything to do with the pool from then on.

We got together with some friends Saturday afternoon. Miles tried to help John with his sunscreen.

I don't want to forget!

Lauren's little Fred Flintstone toes (they are all the same length). (March 2012)
Every night Miles insists on being tucked in with several blankets - the Johnny blanket and the Lauren blanket (made for each of his siblings), the Lolly blanket (made for him by Lolly), and the bunny blanket (made by his great grandma). We can hardly see him after he's tucked in! (March 2012)
How soft Lauren's skin is. How quickly her little fingernails grow. All the magic that is a little babe. Especially since this quiet sleeping child will turn into a mobile tornado in the not too distant future. (February 2012)
The way that John runs into me at full force and buries his head into my legs. Good thing it's pants weather because my pants are always covered in snot. (January 2012)
Miles sometimes will raise his hand and wait for us to address him before telling us something. (January 2012)
My little Miles coming around the corner into our bedroom yesterday saying "Happy Birthday, Mommy" with a big smile on his face. He proceeded to tell me lots more times during the day (and even first thing this morning). (June 2011)
The boys stayed in Berne last week. Grandma came out to find Miles on the phone. She asked who he was calling and he said "Bearsie." (June 2011)
Miles loves to say prayers at night. I sit beside him and fold my hands. He slides his little hands inside of mine, and he mouths the prayer right along with me. (May 2011)
Miles has been so excited about the Christmas lights this year. He loves to go to the front windows and holler for us to turn on the outside lights. He points out every house that we pass with lights - "Lights, Lights!" (December '10)
Miles has started to take real pride in helping out around the house. He loves to carry his plate to the sink and gets the cutest look on his face. His eyes get really big and he turns his mouth into a little "o." (October '10)

Miles is working on pumping his legs while he swings. It's so cute - he moves them like he's running in the air. (September '10)
The first thing Miles does in the morning is run into John's room and either try to climb into the crib with him or give him kisses if he's already up. (September '10)
One of my most favorite times of day is right after both boys wake up from their afternoon naps. John and I go into Miles room and crawl into bed with him. We lie around and read books for awhile. (August '10)
John squeals the tarzan call right back at Miles now. Sometimes he covers his ears when Miles gets too loud. (August '10)
John has started to give "hugs" and "kisses." The big, open mouthed, slobbery kind. (August '10)
Miles LOVES Sesame Street. At the end of this "Play With Me, Sesame" show, Grover gives this great fake laugh. EVERYTIME, Miles finishes the show with "heh, heh, heh." It's so funny and cute - don't want to forget his sweet little sense of humor! (August '10)
We're working on appropriate voice projection (speaking up when talking to others, quieting down when hollering in John's ears, etc). Today at the pool Miles walked into the snack shack and started talking to the guys behind the counter rattling off what he wanted to eat for lunch at an appropriate volume. Never mind that we weren't staying. Nice effort, though. (June '10)
The way John looks at Miles and lights up. Miles was making his funny tarzan call while I was changing John the other day. He couldn't take his eyes off of his big brother and smiled that whole face smile I love! (May '10)
We asked Miles who his best friend was expecting the answer to be YaYa. To our surprise he replied, "Onna." Since that first time, it has gone back and forth between Onna and YaYa. (April '10)
Our nephew, Brady, found a baby turtle yesterday. When my father-in-law asked him what he wanted to name it, Brady replied, "John, because he is tiny and cute." (April '10)
Miles' Tarzan call. Our neighbors can hear it through the windows! It disappeared while Archie was gone and came back in full force once he returned.
When waking up or dozing off to sleep, Miles practices his vocals. Lately he runs through the roster of his family: Mommy, Daddy, YaYa (his doggie lovey, "Captain Yapper"), and sometimes Archie. Glad to know that we do come before YaYa. (December 09)
Miles has picked up a very rude habit lately that just cracks us both up. A certain nameless person around here drinks the remains of the cereal bowl at breakfast. Miles has started to do this and thinks he's a hoot! (August 09)
Miles loves to "touch noses." Today I caught him touching noses with himself in the mirror. (March 09)
I just finished reading a new book to Miles. As soon as I had read the last page, he promptly started clapping like "nice narration, mama." (March 09)
Last week Josh noticed that beggar Archie would sit right beneath Miles while he ate, growl when he wanted a bite, and Miles would nonchalantly reach down and hand him a piece of dinner. When Archie wanted another bite, he'd growl again and Miles would again feed him from his hand. (March 09)
While driving the other afternoon, Miles kept saying Mama mama mama. When I would look back at him, he'd smile and clap. (January 09)
Miles has discovered pushing off of things. Like at lunch the other day, his highchair was on wheels and he pushed back into the middle of the restaurant. He did the same thing with the kitchen table at home. (January 09)
